Help JME raise money Memorial Weekend (May 28 – 31, 2010) to send students to the Kidult youth leadership conference in New York City

We need your help to spread the word. Jr. Music Executive is raising money to send at least 50 Philadelphia area youth to critically acclaimed rapper and producer Pharrell William’s Kidult Youth Leadership Conference in New York on June 26, 2010. This conference will motivate students from several area youth organizations (Jr. Music Executive, The Blues Babe Foundation, D.A.S.H. Program at Philadelphia Center for Arts and Technology, Dollar Boyz, J&R Grassroots, and others) to be the future leaders that Philadelphia needs. The conference is an all-day event packed with interactive sessions, amazing speakers, a mentoring lunch, conference expo, mixer, and music showcase. Speakers include Pharrell Williams, Mimi Valdes, Ayana Byrd, Hezekiah Griggs, III, Daniel “Diggy” Simmons, Akiba Solomon, Datwon Thomas, and many more. Media partner Global Teen Talk will select students to attend and document the journey. Registration, transportation, and additional fees will cost well over $5,000 and Villa has stepped in to help with “Shop for a Cause”. During Memorial Weekend (Friday, May 28th to Sunday, May 31st) shoppers can use the SHOP FOR A CAUSE COUPON to receive a 10% discount on their purchase and Jr. Music Executive will receive 10% of the sale as a donation towards the expenses for the trip. So this holiday weekend shop for a cause.

Since 2004 Jr. Music Executive has been teaching students about the music business. Our students have prompted a major expansion effort. For the next 30 days until our Diamonds In The Rough Fundraiser & Awards , this blog will share photos, audio clips, and video clips of why me and so many others love this incredible organization. Stay tuned, there will be contests and exciting announcements each week.

Yesterday was a day devoted to love and we decided it was fitting to start this blog.

My name is Aisha Winfield and I am the founder of this very special organization called Jr. Music Executive (JME). The organization started in 2004 with workshops to teach high school students about career options in the music business, but over the last 5 years it has grown to be so much more. We inspire, we encourage, we support, we provide creative expression and confidence, but most important of all… we listen. I’ve had the opportunity to hear the hopes, thoughts, fears, and dreams of hundreds of young people and now Jr. Music Executive is ready to expand to the next level for them.

Short-term Goal: To increase our capacity to serve more students in a meaningful way by securing office space, offering additional internship opportunities, providing our program to youth in more area high schools, and distributing printed copies of The Biz Exclusives magazine.

Long-term Goal: To provide programs nationally throughout public and private schools, youth groups, and faith-based organizations. We have created an exciting program that combats truancy, violence, increasing high school drop out rates, and the misconception that school is not important.

We made it to this point with the support of our dedicated board of directors, volunteers, mentors, friends, and hard working students. On Wednesday, March 17th we will celebrate and showcase our achievements at the Diamonds In The Rough Fundraiser & Awards.
