Jr. Music Executive wants aspiring music artists and executives to know the rich tradition and musical history of Philadelphia and its influence on Hip-Hop as they create their own path. We will launch a year long project that begins in Los Angeles, CA this February. You can help. Join the project, donate, or spread the word.

THE LA TRIP: Students (the emcee/journalist, the dancer, and the filmmaker) will document their experience traveling to Los Angeles, CA to attend the GRAMMY Foundation’s 13th Annual Music Preservation Project “Word Revolution, a Celebration of the Evolution of Hip Hop,” with Musical Director… none other than Philadelphia’s own Adam Blackstone. They will conduct interviews and begin research for the Philadelphia Hip-Hop Legacy Project.

THE PROJECT: Youth from various organizations across the city of Philadelphia will document the legacy of Philadelphia Hip-Hop; contributions of Philadelphia musicians, DJs, recording artists, and executives; and their influence on Hip-Hop globally.

BACKGROUND INFO: Philadelphia is known for good music. According to Wikipedia, “Innovations in classical music, opera, R&B, Jazz, and soul have earned the music of Philadelphia national and international renown.” Musicians, DJs, Singers, Rappers, and Executives abound in the city. If it isn’t enough that bands for all of the top artists on tour in the past few years have included musicians from the city, this year Philadelphia can also claim over 10 nominations in multiple major categories at the 53rd GRAMMY Awards. The legacy continues and Jr. Music Executive wants to make sure young aspiring artists and executives know the rich tradition and musical history of Philadelphia and it’s influence on Hip-Hop as they create their own path to success.

JOIN THE PROJECT: Do you work with youth? Do you have a background in media literacy or youth engagement? Do you have an extensive knowledge of Philadelphia music history? We are looking for students, artists, historians, and others to add to the project.

HOW YOU CAN HELP: Donate rewards points for hotels or frequent flier miles for airline tickets. Purchase event tickets for students. Provide gift cards for food establishments that can be used in Los Angeles. Make a monetary donation. Click the button below to make a $10 donation or $10,00 donation (and anything in between) because every dollar helps. $6,000 is needed to cover expenses for the LA trip. All assistance is greatly appreciated.

Help JME raise money Memorial Weekend (May 28 – 31, 2010) to send students to the Kidult youth leadership conference in New York City

We need your help to spread the word. Jr. Music Executive is raising money to send at least 50 Philadelphia area youth to critically acclaimed rapper and producer Pharrell William’s Kidult Youth Leadership Conference in New York on June 26, 2010. This conference will motivate students from several area youth organizations (Jr. Music Executive, The Blues Babe Foundation, D.A.S.H. Program at Philadelphia Center for Arts and Technology, Dollar Boyz, J&R Grassroots, and others) to be the future leaders that Philadelphia needs. The conference is an all-day event packed with interactive sessions, amazing speakers, a mentoring lunch, conference expo, mixer, and music showcase. Speakers include Pharrell Williams, Mimi Valdes, Ayana Byrd, Hezekiah Griggs, III, Daniel “Diggy” Simmons, Akiba Solomon, Datwon Thomas, and many more. Media partner Global Teen Talk will select students to attend and document the journey. Registration, transportation, and additional fees will cost well over $5,000 and Villa has stepped in to help with “Shop for a Cause”. During Memorial Weekend (Friday, May 28th to Sunday, May 31st) shoppers can use the SHOP FOR A CAUSE COUPON to receive a 10% discount on their purchase and Jr. Music Executive will receive 10% of the sale as a donation towards the expenses for the trip. So this holiday weekend shop for a cause.
