Rah Crawford

Born on April 7, 1973 in the Germantown section of Philadelphia, Rah's mother exposed him to the arts at a very young age. Summer art camps, theatre and ballet classes were just some of the activities that sparked his artistic interests as a youth. His father, a semi pro boxer and illustrator, taught both physical and self-discipline, now cornerstones of Rah's personality. Declining a four year scholarship to an academic art university, Rah opted for a concentrated two year commercial art school instead, collecting life experience and education.

Rah's travels soon lead him across the United States as a fashion model, techno-house music DJ and an underground magazine publisher. Pursuing life experiences beyond the classroom walls afforded Rah both the time and opportunity to develop his unique artistic style. His first solo exhibition of 11 paintings sold out within the evening. Since then his work has remained in demand with predictions for the future being even greater.

In a time and age where images are taken at face value, Rah Crawford reminds us not too. Combining his love of pop imagery with a keen ability to assess people, he calls his trademarked style Neoteric Pop-Iconic Clairvoyance™ (NPIC). This unique visual approach leads us deeper into the human psyche of life, love and culture.

Rah's disciplined hand creates powerful imagery like the ancient craftsman, relying solely on ink and the brush to develop his images. But look even closer into his work and you'll uncover coded messages and admonitions. Words and phrases intertwined to form complex labyrinths of shape nestled within the images delicate spaces. The surface image is simply a piece of the puzzle, only through research and study of the clued text can the true meaning of the work be revealed.

Rah Crawford creates art for our high speed information and multimedia culture using inking techniques that date back to the ancients. His work speaks the modern language of this generation in a way that great artists of the past have done for theirs.
